Odd Bird Tree IV Original Artwork
This unusual pair of birch trees feature colourful quirky birds flying and hanging out around them. The trees are felted with wool, silk ribbon, sparkle and curls and then I’ve needle felted the birds with a variety of colourful merino wool.
Usually I create artwork that makes sense with animals in their correct habitats with the right flora and fauna surrounding them. For my Odd Bird Tree series I have decided to fill the trees with a variety of my favourite birds plus a couple extra funky ones. I love needle felting birds! I think the textures and shape of their feathers lend well to needle felting. I love to see how much detail I can get with my needle when creating birds and each one takes a couple of hours to add.
There are 28 birds needle felted in this picture:
Chaffinch, Purple Heron, Blue bird of paradise, Blue Jay, King penguin, American eagle, Electus parrot, Greater flameback, Eastern rosella, Rosette spoonbill, White duck, King Vulture, Tufted Puffin, Bar tailed godwit, Burrowing owl, Olive warbler, Ostrich, Crow, Blue tit, Swallow, Wren, Pied Wagtail, Long eared owl, Goldfinch, Chaffinch, Yellow breasted bunting, Red macaw, Grey-breasted Mountain toucan
This piece is professionally framed in a wood box frame that is 57 x 92cm and will be on display at the ESC Artists exhibition at Stamford Arts Centre 12-23 November.
